Swap

You’re thirsty? What do you reach for? If the answer is a soda, even a diet soda, you may be hindering your progress.

Turn that drink around and read the nutritional label. What you won’t find, is anything to help you on your journey or nourishment for your body! Are you ready to swap that soda for a healthy thirst quencher?

If you’re not ready to give up soft drinks completely, try replacing just one a day with water or green tea for a week. Then, replace another and another. Before you know it, you will be closer to your goal and healthier too!

Trust me, I understand how difficult it is to make this change. I used to drink 10-12 20 oz. bottles of soft drinks a day! That was up to 3,600 empty, unnourishing calories a day! It has been almost 3 years since I have touched a soda. Praise God! I have been freed from that addiction! For me that is what it was, an addiction! Make it one of your goals to trade in at least one soda or other unhealthy drink a day for a week and see how much better you feel, not to mention other benefits you will notice.

Get the Results You Are Working For

There are times when walking away from something seems easier than working hard to continue, especially when the road is tough and desired results are not there.

I know, I experienced a period of time where I was working out six days a week, skipping desserts and anything else that didn’t fit into my healthy eating plan. Yet, the results were a pound or less lost in a week, or even gaining for several weeks in a row.

Then, God sent someone different into my life. They did a full wellness evaluation and changed my healthy eating plan. The big change – my calories were increased by 350 calories a day. I learned that during my workouts, I had greatly increased my muscle mass and I wasn’t losing weight because I was starving my lean muscle. I now do a wellness evaluation every month. This led me to become a certified wellness coach and to help others.

As we lose weight, our bodies change and our plans have to change with it. Have you had a wellness evaluation? If not, call WAVES at 706-745-8632 for a free wellness evaluation. If you are in or near the Blairsville, GA area we can do a face-to-face evaluation. If you are outside the area, we can do an evaluation via a scheduled Skype conference call or chat. Contact us for your free evaluation today.

Don’t Wait

If you are thinking about starting a weight loss journey, don’t wait! There will never be a more perfect time to get started than right now!

On the other hand, there will always be excuses to make you want to wait. Among them are birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, church gatherings, holidays, lunch with friends, etc. Yet, none of those are valid reasons to wait.

My kids birthday parties were no less fun for anyone because I didn’t eat cake. My anniversary was more special when sharing a dessert with my husband than eating the whole serving by myself. Family reunions are even better when I eat less and visit more.

You get the picture. Start today. Your next meal or snack. Don’t even wait until the next morning. Now is the time God has given you. Start taking care of His temple now. You will be rewarded. Are you ready?

Unexpected Surprises

On this weight loss journey, with alot of pounds to shed, I have had several surprises along the way. On occasion, there were negative surprises where someone that I expected to support me and my journey, did not.

However, most of the surprises have been pleasant. People that I didn’t even realize knew who I was would stop me and congratulate me on my weight loss. It is a great feeling to be able to encourage others and be encouraged also.

Another surprise I found was from some friends that hadn’t seen me in over a year. I saw them out one day and spoke, but they didn’t answer. About 30 minutes later, they came up to me and said “Elizabeth?” They hadn’t recognized me! Yes, I had changed that much!

How about you? Are you ready for a change?

Stretch Yourself

Remember that a warm-up before a workout and stretching after each workout are equally important. Getting your muscles warmed up prior to exercising reduces the chances of injury. It also gets the blood flowing and gets you ready for a productive workout. Stretching helps us avoid injury, reduces muscle tension, alleviates stress, makes us more flexible and helps us look better by making us more shapely.

In fact, there is no reason not to stretch. Simply make it a part of your regular workout routine. Your body will thank you!

I also want you to stretch yourself in other ways too. Talk to someone new; introduce yourself and learn something about them. You never know when you might get the opportunity to teach someone about Christ.

Have you stretched yourself today?

Spice It Up!

A major problem dieter’s run into is dissatisfaction in the food they eat. Diets can become monotonous, repeating the same meals every few days.

The great news is you’ve found WAVES for Weight Loss and we don’t believe in diets! We believe in permanent lifestyle changes that leave us with permanent results.

So forget a bland diet that you hate. Instead, look for healthier choices to add to your regular meals, and by all means, experiment.

I never knew I would really like spicy fish until I tried it. In fact, herbs are a great addition to any dish. Try garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage, ginger and more. Fresh herbs pack a bigger punch, but most herbs have added health benefits as well as satisfying the palette.  What’s your favorite spice to add to a dish?

Closer Than We Think

While losing weight, we are most often asked how much weight we have lost. However, we may be closer to our goal than we realize when our true goal is getting closer to God.

Yes, this is the true measure of our success. By making the focus of this journey our relationship with Christ, our goal may be closer than we think. After all, Christ never moves or changes. It should be our desire to be closer to Him and our seeking Him is what makes the difference.

So, how much closer are you? Are you seeking him daily?

Small Changes Deliver Big Results

As I began to seriously lose weight, people would ask me more and more “What are you doing?” Well, most people wanted a simple singular answer. I know most of us would love to take a magic weight loss pill and wake up skinny the next morning.

However, that pill doesn’t exist, and neither does one change fix everything. The reality is that a lot of small changes and being consistent with those changes is what leads to big results.

For example, if I have a day where I do everything right on my exercise plan except skip my exercise (rest day not included), the results are not going to be what they could have been. The same is true if I skip drinking as much water. The key is to learn to make WAVES everyday!

Don’t forget to download one of our WAVES trackers to help you stay focused. So, how are you doing? Are your small changes adding up?

Be Your Own Best Friend

We all need encouragement from time to time, a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. We usually know who we can turn to in those times of need. I hope you always turn first to Jesus. He wants to be there for you and He will NEVER let you down.

Today, however, I want to focus on our self talk. Many of us battle a spirit of rejection, whether we realize it or not. A spirit of rejection will have us saying things to ourselves that are not true.

We need to stamp out those untruths and replace them with truths from God’s word. Be your own best friend and feed your mind the truth about you!

  • God wants you to succeed
  • God wants you to submit your eating habits to Him
  • God wants you to be healthy
  • God wants you to glorify Him

Remember, you were worth dying for on the cross….God did this for YOU so don’t let a spirit of rejection convience you otherwise. God will be there for you every step of the way.

No Pain, No Gain?

We have all heard the motto “no pain, no gain”. For me, this brings to mind connotations of an angry drill sergeant screaming in the face of frightened kids. Not my idea of fun, nor something I would want to continue doing for the rest of my life.

I, personally, don’t push myself to the point of pain. Discomfort, yes; pain, no. When I have made the mistake of pushing myself to pain, I have injured myself. An injury means a set back and a delay in reaching our goal.

Discomfort on the other hand means that I am doing a little more than I am used to doing and making progress. By using discomfort as my guide, I know when its time to jog a little farther, up the speed on the treadmill or increase the weights. On the flip side, it also guides me on when to stop. So, I expect to say uncomfortable and hopefully pain and injury free.

How about you? Are you getting out of your comfort zone?
